Meet The Team

Caroline 'Corie' Stanfield, Chair, Director and Presenter, Folk Ash & Thorn 7-9pm Thursdays & 9-11pm Sundays, and Ones at One 1pm & 6pm Fridays:  Corie brings vast radio experience, having presented live shows for many years as well as producing recorded content and holding station management roles. She brings HR and inclusion expertise, leading the team to meet our goals and grow the station for community good. She Chairs the Board, keeps the business plan on track, trains up new volunteers, and encourages radio  newbies to give it a try. Corie is passionate about community radio, the local music scene and especially all things folk music. Catch Corie's folk show 7pm Thursdays and 9pm Sundays for a whole spectrum of folk music, the stories behind the songs, local folk artists, Derby Folk Festival news, gig recommendations near and far, plus some lesser-known gems. She also brings you No.1 hits across the decades on Fridays.

Corie's leadership of other national and non-profit groups, her professional career experience and her infectious enthusiasm for local radio to connect people together and share great music makes her a driving force behind exciting plans for the station's future including Derby DAB. Corie loves the variety of specialist genre shows we can host, keeping variety and local flavour on the airwaves. Corie's guide dog, Honey, is also a bit of a station celebrity!
Vanessa Boon, Vice-Chair, Director & Community Content Creator:  I grew up around radio as a kid watching my Dad on-air and seeing the power of radio to entertain and connect people. I like the idea of a grassroots radio station to benefit the local community. I have presented a regular show in the past, but now mostly volunteer behind the scenes; I enjoy training and supporting volunteers especially people trying radio for the first time, running youth radio workshops and getting community groups involved in creating content and features. I also work on fundraising, production and broadcasting software tasks and am excited to be working as part of the Derby DAB project.

For me, it's about amplifying the diverse communities of Derby, reducing loneliness by keeping people company over the airwaves and harnessing the power of community radio to boost skills, confidence, wellbeing, job prospects and community spirit. I want Derby Sound to be a platform for volunteers to find their voice, for students to gain experience, for anyone to find a new hobby, and to amplify local artists, venues, causes and community difference-makers. Come join us!

Errol Harriott, Director & Presenter, The Soul Trilogy, 8-10pm Fridays / 11am-1pm Sundays
Hi, let me introduce myself, my name is Errol L Harriott, and I am known on the music scene as DJErrolH from Derby. I am known for playing the very best in Northern Soul, Motown, with a sprinkling of modern soul. I also play many other genres including Reggae RnB, Latin-inspired music, and of course modern-day popular music.

My love of music came from my parents who brought reggae and SKA-type music to our home in Derby from Jamaica in early the 60s. This had a massive musical influence on me in my early days until I reach senior school when I fell in love with Soul. Northern Soul and Motown had a great influence on my life and today the music still inspires me greatly.
After leaving the soul scene for several years to embark on playing mainstream popular music which I enjoyed, I knew something was missing and that was the sweet sound of soul music. I turned back to soul music and the rest is history.

I now have the chance to play great music on the radio that we can all enjoy and indeed inspire others to do the same. My radio presenting is just the start of my radio presenting journey and I would encourage others who enjoy playing great music of any genre to do the same.
Shobna Bazzaz, Director & Sessional Presenter
Derby Sound made Shobna's dream of presenting a dance music radio show come true! From time to time, you'll catch her alter-ego spinning tunes, sharing gig memories and great stories about all the stars she's met.

Shobna brings a business head, with vast experience in finance and business management, together with arts and community at heart. She has provided leadership to arts organisations, and is great at networking, building partnerships, business and financial planning.
Maggie Rowe, Director & Presenter, The Night Tribe rock show 10pm Tuesdays & Music Library Manager: Born and bred in Derby, I've lived in this great city all my life, except for a 3 year sojourn in Sheffield to go to university. I'm a Rams fan and love a good SF or Fantasy book, a good action film, a good role playing game, good rock music and especially good radio. I believe that good radio can change lives for the better.

Ian Bradley, Production Manager
Ian works his production magic on our station jingles, ads and imaging for each show. He is a professional audio editor and producer with lots of experience in radio, audiobooks, voiceovers, showreels and podcasts. You will also hear Ian's voice on some of our station bulletins and What's On Guides.

Steve P, Presenter, The Latin Quarter, 7pm Fridays / 7pm Sundays
Bringing sunshine and salsa feels to Derby all year round, Steve brings you a mix of bachata, salsa and Latin fusions to get you moving. He loves sharing upcoming events on the local social dancing scene, plus yoga, meditation, arts and culture events around the city. He also hosts seasonal specials and you'll hear his voice bringing you some of our What's on Guides and bulletins, and occasionally some poetry to feed your ears, too.

Jo Blackwood, Presenter, The Soothing Section 10am Fridays / 8pm Sundays
Jo brings feel-good tunes, poetry and spoken word, chat with local creatives, and positive vibes. Jo's soothing tones give you the perfect 'me time' to relax and unwind.

Roy Harvey, Presenter, Ones at One, 1pm & 6pm Wednesdays
Roy has enjoyed returning to radio presenting, bringing you an eclectic mix of number one hits from the 60s onwards, with guess the year, and spot the rogue tune that surprisingly didn't quite make it to the chart-topping position.

Jayne Williams, Volunteer Presenter, Ones at One show - Tuesdays 1pm and 6pm
I met Vanessa through my day job as Communications Officer at Community Action in Derby - the idea of getting involved in the station was really exciting but I didn’t do anything about it until Vanessa ran a workshop for community organisations to show them how to promote their causes on the airwaves in July 2019.

I love music, all kinds, from 70s punk, new wave and rock through to indie, (a little bit of country) and new more recent bands and artists - so much music, not enough time! Radio is such a powerful medium - it can be your friend, your educator, your entertainer - whether in the background (though I don’t like it ever to be in the background!) or full blast. I’m originally from the north-east and arrived in Derby via London, Kent and Connecticut!

I’m part of the Ones at One show family and present the show on Tuesdays - repeated at 6pm the same day - playing number one hits from across the decades. Each week I also get to know a local community organisation, giving them an opportunity to amplify their cause - and choose a favourite number one - linking in to #CharityTuesday

To be able to combine music with chat, fun facts and community news is a dream and the Derby Sound family couldn’t be more helpful and welcoming. I’ve learned such a lot in a short space of time with lots more still to learn. Such a great volunteering role!
